The lighting design was the result of collaboration between Logan City Council's Public Lighting Officer and [undisclosed]. The design showed the lighting layout, the conduit configuration, the cable sizing, colour layout and switchboard configuration

What was the main design objective for the lighting scheme?

The main objective of the lighting was to extend the usable hours of the park and to make it a fun place for children after dark. Individual areas such as 'play' ,’park’, ‘sport’ and ‘rest' were colour coordinated with the lights - creating zones of colour after dark.

Demonstrate how lighting complements the design of the space by day?

The glass light tiles along the path appear white and opaque during the day but come to life at night, colouring the zones after dark and illuminating the journey while colouring the backdrop of trees. By day the words on the flagpoles identifying zones and at night they stand as sign posts on the journey.

Showcase how lighting enhances the use and experience of the space after dark?

Who wouldn’t want to play after dark? The lighting in the park not only extends the park hours but also serves an attractor from the road.

Highlight lighting creativity, problem-solving and thinking-outside-the-box?

The lighting has provided a vehicle to tell the history of the village well into the night. The lights have allowed the village elders to greet the passing motorists and remind them of previous inhabitants.

How did you take Dark Sky considerations (prevention of lighting pollution) into account for this project?

The strength of the colored lights negates the existing street lighting and highlights the park. All the lights are on timers and switch off after 10:00 pm.
