    Demonstrate that a professional lighting design was undertaken for this project?

    A lighting design was completed, showing the lighting layout, the conduit layout and the cable sizing and solar array.

    What was the main design objective for the lighting scheme?

    The main objective of the lighting was to mark one of the entrances into Logan City. Located on an inaccessible site along the Slacks Creek Corridor, the site presented a perfect opportunity to engage with the community about the creek. Part of a corridor project, the lit boats extend awareness of the creek into the hours of darkness.

    Demonstrate how lighting complements the design of the space by day?

    By day the yellow boats are dotted along the corridor, drawing attention to the creek; but at night they appear to be floating in the waters, visible from cars travelling in both directions.

    Showcase how lighting enhances the use and experience of the space after dark?

    Children’s boats - illuminated and curious. As one turns round the bend the boats become visible floating within the trees, the gentle light emphasizing the origami quality of the boats.


    Highlight lighting creativity, problem-solving and thinking-outside-the-box?

    The site presented challenges as it goes under water regularly and is largely unnoticed at night to passing traffic. Solar lighting was used rather than connecting to existing street lights. The up lights were located within the foundation pads and the small lights hidden within the boats washed up over the sails.

    How did you take Dark Sky considerations (prevention of lighting pollution) into account for this project?

    The darkness of the water and the creek is offset by the light of the boats. Street lights do not have negative impact on the boats as they are set off from the direct light. The lights are set off the road in an area that benefits from additional lighting.
