City of Gold Coast, Draft City Plan amendment: The Spit Master Plan implementation (key development sites) 

As work commences to implement projects under the Spit Master Plan, the State Government is leading a program to lease State-owned land, unlocking economic opportunities and enhancing the recreational offering at The Spit.

The City of Gold Coast, under direction from the State Government, has proposed updates to the Gold Coast City Plan to ensure any future development aligns with the Master Plan.

 19 May 2020 - Millenium Arts Project Tree Removal

AILA has called on Arts Queensland and the Brisbane City Council to provide greater protection for and strategic planting of large-scale urban trees to increase biodiversity, provide heat relief and create resilience of the urban tree population for future generations.

This has come with news that five trees planted adjacent to the State Library of Queensland in Stanley Place have been designated for removal as part of the Brisbane Metro project. Read the letter here .


May 2020 - AILA QLD Economic Recovery letter to State Government

AILA QLD calls for investment in landscape architecture and quality open spaces as part of the state economic recovery program. Thank you to all members who provided input and feedback on the AILA QLD letter to push for stimulus funding for economic recovery to State Government. This letter and areas outlined will form the basis of the AILA QLD State Election Campaign. Read it here .

We call on all AILA QLD members to join the push for investment in landscape architecture, quality open spaces and stronger communities in the wake of COVID-19 and tight restrictions. Get active on your social media channels and through your professional networks - share articles, projects, thoughts and advocate to your local members of government by tagging them or writing to them.

The Veloway 1 (V1) is a dedicated cycleway designed to connect people riding bikes between Lower River Terrace, South Brisbane and Eight Mile Plains, adjacent to the Pacific Motorway. The 17 kilometre cycleway will provide a safe and efficient route for people travelling by bicycle. Planning is now underway for an iconic new Velobridge at Lower River Terrace, South Brisbane to connect the Kangaroo Point Bikeway to the existing Veloway 1 infrastructure at Captain Cook Bridge.
 
TMR is seeking feedback to ensure they provide the right information, far enough in advance to be involved with the planning of this key piece of cycling infrastructure. You can do the online complete the online survey here. Consultation has been extended to 30 April.

Upcoming Queensland Council Elections 
AILA Queensland have developed a template letter to send to your local candidates and mayoral candidates in the lead up to Local Government Elections on March 28. The letter outlines AILA's position statements and advocates for Green Infrastructure. Members are also welcome to include advocacy on local issues.
