Join professional Tasmanian photographer Luke Tscharke for a night photography workshop under the dark skies of Kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
This hands-on session will teach you the practical techniques for photographing the Milky Way, how to achieve sharp focus in the dark, and how to get the most out of your camera for night photography. We will be based at The Springs, moving to the summit for a different perspective if conditions are favourable. Should the Aurora Australis make an appearance, we will prioritise capturing the display.
Equipment for attendees to bring:
- Camera: A camera with manual controls is needed. While modern smartphones with a 'Pro' mode are welcome, a DSLR or mirrorless camera is recommended for the best results.
- Tripod: A sturdy tripod is essential for all cameras, including smartphones, to get sharp photos during long exposures.
- Warm Clothing: It is vital to dress appropriately for an alpine environment. You will need multiple warm layers, including a thermal base layer, a fleece or mid-layer, and a windproof/waterproof outer jacket.
- Warm Headwear & Gloves: A beanie and warm gloves are essential.
- Sturdy Footwear: Closed-toe, sturdy shoes or boots with good grip.
- Head Torch: A torch is needed for navigating safely in the dark. A standard white LED head torch is ideal.
