The short course is delivered by ACS Distance Education in partnership with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.
Plant choices can make or break a garden design; not only when the garden is first built, but for decades afterwards as long as the plants continue to grow. If you know how a larger variety of plants will not only appear but also perform; you have more to choose from. That gives you increased possibilities for the aesthetics you can achieve and control in a planning designs where there is limited spaces no greater than around 10 to 70 square metres. The course is primarily focussed on expanding your knowledge of what plants you choose and how you use them in a small landscaped garden.
Lesson 1. Choosing a Plant. Make more informed plant selection through understanding the interaction between hard and soft landscape, how plants impact the microclimate and ways of managing bigger plants in the context of smaller spaces. Lesson 2. Shrubs for Small Gardens. Learn about 43 shrub genera that are more widely grown in smaller landscapes and appreciate the characteristics which are most important for making a sound decision to include or excel each in a design. Lesson 3. Trees for Small Gardens.
