Speakers

As Manager of Skin Cancer Prevention at Cancer Council NSW, Liz King leads the implementation of sun protection programs across various settings, to enable good sun protection practices that will reduce the risk of skin cancer, and improve the health and wellbeing of people living in NSW.

Dr Joanna Turner is a Senior Lecturer (Physics) in the Faculty of Health Engineering and Sciences at the University of Southern Queensland. Her research area centres around improving measurement and monitoring of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, with special interest in the reflection of UV radiation from the built environment. Additionally she works with colleagues on using smartphones in the measurement of UV radiation. Her personal interests include educating students and the public on understanding UV radiation through the use of cyanotype media to explain how UV radiation can be understood.

Agnieszka Wujeska-Klause received her PhD degree in plant physiology and biochemistry from the University of Melbourne in 2015. Since Dr Wujeska-Klause is working at Western Sydney University. She is interested in how plants function in Australia’s urban spaces, where her experience with climate change issues, environmental protection and plants can be combined to create rapid changes in urban designs. Currently, she works on topics related to urban heat and urban planning within Sebastian Pfautsch’s team, with the research focus on the urban heat island effect and how the tree canopy and built environment influence urban microclimates. These findings have a direct impact on mitigating the negative effects of a warming climate on city suburbs, helping to keep neighbourhoods green and cool for decades to come.

Katie Earle is a passionate and driven Senior Landscape Practitioner with 15 years of experience based both in Australia and in the Middle East. Katie has a passion for large scale challenging and complex projects that instill positive change in the community with a focus on sustainable urban design and placemaking across all cultures. Katie is a driven, innovative and visionary technical designer and design leader.

Nikki Woolley is Skin and Lifestyle Cancer Prevention Portfolio Manager at Cancer Institute NSW, the cancer control agency of NSW Health. Nikki has over 30 year’s experience working alongside communities to improve their health and wellbeing in Victoria, NSW and New Zealand. Nikki has developed, led and implemented multiple health promotion programs at work, schools, sport and play. A strength and love is engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to broaden our understanding of health from disease management towards creating and maintaining a healthier built environment.
