Speakers
Designing with Country is the development of projects with
first nations voices at its core. The event will feature a few projects
who have successfully demonstrate a genuine intent to build mutual respect and
trust between the aboriginal community and the design team.
Our first speaker Vanessa Margetts, Bart Pigram and Sarah Yu join us from Yawuru
Country. Together with a number of others they have brought a number of successful
projects to life over the past decade, including Jetty to Jetty Interpretive
Trail, Liyan-ngan Nyirrwa Cultural Wellbeing Centre and Cultural Heritage
at The Guwarri and Jiljirrgun
(Town Beach).
Our second project is The School of Design & Built Environment as part of the Exchange Precinct at Curtin University. This project is an example of how, when done right, landscape architecture's collaborative approach to art and design can weave together the cultural narratives, natural processes, and functional requirements of a site, in the creation of distinctive, flexible, and meaningful public spaces. Hear from Bellardong Noongar Artist Kamsani Bin Salleh, Luke Davey from Artitecture and Damien Pericles from REALMstudios who will reveal the process of incubation, curation, cultural development, as well as technical delivery that allowed the project to manifest.
Our third speaker is Hannah Galloway fro HASSELL Studio to talk about their collaboration with Whadjuk Noongar people over many years on projects such as Perth Stadium, Metronet an Boola Bardip (West Australian Museum).
