Aunty Merle Simpson is an eminent Kaurna Elder. Aunty Merle is the Senior Kaurna Liaison Officer at Green Adelaide, The Department for Environment and Water South Australia, where she works to guide urban greening and ecological restoration initiatives to enhance the qualities and integrity of Country.
Merle has received the NAIDOC SA Caring for Country award and has been involved with significant cultural and landscape projects on Country in Tarntanya / Adelaide. She is part of the movement to restore traditional Aboriginal management of Country through cultural burns and traditional knowledge.
