Josie is passionate about driving actions that lead to positive and lasting change in landscapes—both freshwater and terrestrial—and for the people who inhabit them. With over 20 years of experience in environmental management, she has worked across scientific and community engagement roles, always bridging the gap between evidence and action.
Her research focuses on designing and evaluating the effectiveness of conservation projects, with a particular interest in how to deliver the greatest ecological impact with limited resources. As a botanist and vegetation management specialist, Josie has led programs across Queensland and Tasmania, combining ecological knowledge with practical delivery in complex rural settings.
Deeply connected to the farming community—her parents and much of her extended family are or were farmers—Josie has a strong focus on pastoral systems. Her work reflects a commitment to healing landscapes by aligning ecological restoration with the realities of agricultural life. In her view, healing means moving from depletion to renewal, and fostering relationships between people and place that are rooted in care, resilience, and long-term stewardship.
