Mat Hinds is a Tasmanian based Architect who established Taylor and Hinds Architects with Poppy Taylor in 2011.
Taylor and Hinds carefully studies and realises the circumstances of Tasmanian sites, and stories across a range of spatial typologies, including; Aboriginal cultural and post-colonial heritage (including World Heritage), tourism, hospitality, educational and strategic environmental, peri-urban and urban housing.
Taylor and Hinds Architects has twice been nominated for the Royal College of Arts Dorfman Award, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Swiss Architecture Award in 2020. In 2020 the Italian periodical DOMUS nominated Taylor and Hinds as an internationally leading architectural practice. The practice’s projects have been nationally and internationally awarded including twice receiving the Australian Institute of Architects highest National honours.
The practice concerns itself with questions of spatial strategy, experiential memory, typology, and quality. Through a determined and rigorous architectural process that is centred upon strong relationships, Taylor and Hinds realises architecture that is intrinsic, cultivated and ecological in its contribution to Tasmania's spatial memory.
