Learn Plant Taxonomy. There is a system to plant naming. When you understand the system, it becomes easier to identify plants and possible to make useful decisions about where to plant them. Expand your depth and breadth of plant knowledge and your options for designing landscapes will increase greatly.

The Plant Taxonomy short course is delivered by ACS Distance Education in partnership with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.

Learn about Plant Taxonomy and identify plants with great accuracy and ease. This course will help you will learn to identify parts of a plant, or place plants into a high-level scientific classification such as a family or class. Plant Taxonomy will help you notice the finer details that separate one plant cultivar from another. It provides a systemic framework for the process of identifying plants. 

This short course covers four lessons:

Lesson 1: The Why and How of Plant Names
Lesson 2: Naming the Parts - Plant Anatomy
Lesson 3: Identification Tools
Lesson 4: Plant Families - The Family Life of Plants

How the CPD course will be delivered

  1. On paid registration, your enrolment will be processed by our team.
  2. A student login for the ACS platform will be emailed to your AILA member email once everything is ready to go. For any enquiries please contact [email protected].
  3. On completion of these steps, the 20-hour Plant Taxonomy course is yours to keep and review anytime. It includes real-time access to content updates and the assessments can be repeated as many times as needed
