2nd February 2023

Hello AILA Qld members and welcome to the new year, already February!

The Queensland Chapter has started our activities for the year with our operational planning meeting earlier this week, to discuss priorities across our key pillars. There was a strong focus on education and skills shortages for landscape architectural staff, membership benefits and a continuing focus on advocacy.

Advocacy will again be a priority focus for the chapter this year – particularly around engagement with all levels of government on issues of concern for landscape architects, with Olympics legacy and green infrastructure provision being high on the list. We also continue to advocate strongly for a Registered Landscape Architect to be appointed to the Office of the Queensland Government Architect to assist with project scoping and brief reviews for major government projects, including Olympic venues.

We are also continuing our step-by-step engagement with the State Government on the QBCC licencing issue, toward what we hope will be a positive outcome this year.

Otherwise, I hope all of our members have a busy and productivity year in 2023, and that we continue to see a strong pipeline of project opportunities coming through.
