A Queensland Executive message from Matt Durning

Hello and Happy Landscape Architecture Month, everyone! It was great to see many of you at the recent QLD Biourbanism & Breakfast event and come together with our allied professions to discuss a multidisciplinary approach.

I hope everybody enjoyed the Easter break after a busy few weeks completing AILA Awards submissions. We are looking forward to seeing all the outstanding work Queensland has to showcase at the 2024 AILA QLD Entry Reveal on the 8th of May.

In March, we celebrated the inspirational women from the Parks and Built Environment Industry with speakers including Peta-Maree Ashford, Amy Ahchay, Tahlia Steadman, Leah Lang, and hosted by our very own AILA Qld President, Tessa Leggo.

The Be a Landscape Architect team (BALA) has been busy building awareness with local schools and collaborating where possible on real projects. A reminder, if you are interested in becoming an Ambassador for the Be a Landscape Architect (BALA) program, please get in touch, and we can organize an induction.

The QLD Executive and Advocacy Committee have also been busy collaborating with our peers at the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), and the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) to promote good design and planning for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games and legacy. After successful consultation with government departments at both local and state levels, we are finally ready to launch the project publicly and to all our Institutes' members and key stakeholders at the Green Pathways, Gold Places launch on Tuesday, 30th April at 5:30 pm.

As we move into the demanding work months, don’t forget to take a break and get outside. There are plenty of upcoming events, including the 2024 QLD Landscape Architecture Awards located at the Grove Rooftop under the Hibiscus on the 13th of June.
