GREEN PATHWAYS GOLD PLACES

October 2025 - Green Grid Workshop Summary Released

In June, the Green Pathways, Gold Places partners (AILA, AIA, DIA and PIA) along with Engineers Australia and Queensland Walks held a Green Grid Workshop in Brisbane. The workshop bought together 80 passionate and talented architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers, designers and built environment professionals for a dynamic and collaborative session. Focused on designing a connected, healthy, and sustainable legacy for Brisbane through the concept of an Olympic Forest and integrated green links across Games precincts.

The summary document from this workshop has now been finalised and you can view here.

The Green Pathways, Gold Places team are working on the next steps, including pulling the key information into a short advocacy document to further advocate to relevant external stakeholders.

April 2024

AILA, in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects, Design Institute of Australia and Planning Institute of Australia officially launched the Green Pathways, Gold Places advocacy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in April 2024.

For Brisbane 2032, the cities are the venue. The visitor experience will rely significantly on the quality of the urban places and their connections. And the community will experience most benefit where strategic investments are made in delivering better places for all.

To deliver city-shaping benefits, we have 4 key asks of governments and Games Partners:

  • The establishment of a 2032 Design Coordination Unit within the Office of the Queensland Government Architect
  • A 2032 Green Grid that supports an urban Olympic Forest in South East Queensland
  • A precinct-based approach to venue design and planning in collaboration with the Games Partners.
  • The development of place funding models for the Games Budget which ensures design and place outcomes are recognised as strategic investments, not costs.
