News from AILA Victoria Chapter - April 2024

Dear Members

I am excited to be writing this message during World Landscape Architecture Month! This is a great opportunity to showcase our skills as landscape architects to the broader community. The AILA National team have provided a monthly calendar for social media posts – we encourage you to publish posts of all the great work that’s happening across Victoria. Refer to the daily prompts on socials.

We are honoured to be contributing to the Victorian Government's new Plan for Victoria – which will replace Plan Melbourne as the guiding planning policy document for the future. AILA Vic Executive are leading the advocacy with a joint submission with PIA, the Institute of Architects and the Urban Design Forum and an additional submission on behalf of AILA VIC. We welcome members’ contributions to these submissions - join Hon. Sonya Kilkenny MP at the Minister for Planning briefing for AILA VIC members online event on Thursday 9 May to help shape the future of Victoria.

AILA VIC Awards Ceremony is fast approaching. This event is being held on Wednesday 5 June, which is also World Environment Day, and includes a new sit-down dinner format at Zinc at Fed Square. Table bookings of 10-or individual tickets are available with early bird discounts in place during April only. This will be a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues and celebrate the incredible work of landscape architects across Victoria. Book your spot.

For a sneak preview of the AILA VIC 2024 Awards entries, join us at the free and in-person AILA VIC Awards Reveal event at Brickworks, Melbourne on Thursday 2 May.  Register here.

I’d also like to thank the dedication and commitment of all our AILA Awards Juries. Judging is a vital part of the AILA Awards programs, and we are fortunate to have a great line-up of Jury members again this year, tasked with this important role and spending a lot of their time ensuring all entries are carefully assessed.

Finally, we welcome the support of our members across all aspects of AILA. We have a few places available on our VIC Committees, so if you are interested in education, the environment, advocating for landscape architecture, connection to country or any other of the vast array of topics we cover, please join one of our committees. Contact the AILA VIC team with your expression of interest.

Lots happening!

Looking forward to catching up with colleagues over the next couple of months.

Andrew Partos, VIC Chapter Vice President
