RETURN TO NEWS

26 July 2022

We are reminded of the fragility of our climate once again with the doom and gloom of record northern hemisphere temperatures & bushfires, Eastern Australian floods, bee parasites and the threat of the Indonesian foot and mouth disease looming.

The very good news is we are now on the upward slope into Spring, which is always a wonderful time for us as Landscape Architects, seeing our beautiful spaces come into bloom once again!

For those that have enjoyed a few weeks away for the school holidays, either locally or in the unusually warm northern hemisphere summer, welcome back and I hope you are all refreshed in mind, body and soul.

To help you get you back into the groove of things, I am pleased to bring you the latest news and events for the AILA NSW Chapter.
On the state government news front, NSW DPE has recently published a supporting draft Practitioner’s Guide to the NSW Public Spaces Charter. The Practitioner’s Guide gives more information and ideas on how to apply the 10 Charter principles when planning, designing, managing and activating public space. Applications are now open for eligible organisations to become signatories to the NSW Public Spaces Charter. AILA encourages all of our members practices to apply to become a signatory, and to review and provide feedback on the draft Practitioner’s Guide prior to Sept 9th, 2022.
Under education and continuing professional development, I am proud to announce as a member of the AILA ShadeSmart Working Group, that the 4th module of the ShadeSmart programme covering Design Performance will run on 31st August. Book your spot now. The Parents in Landscape Architecture Network (PLAN) will be catching up on 4th August, I encourage all practitioners with families to drop in to hear more about the network is and how you can be involved. AILA FRESH NSW is hosting a Student and Graduate event in conjunction with AILA NSW'S Partner- Light Culture- join them for a hands on demonstration, followed by snacks and drinks - Register now.SESL will also be hosting a webinar for all your soil science needs in September, registration to be announced shortly.

Otherwise, keep safe, keep warm, keep dry, Spring is almost here.
