News from AILA Victoria Chapter 22 August 2022

It’s been a busy month with Melbourne slowly awakening from another COVID winter to marginally warmer weather and more daylight back in store. Good news for those who like the sun but with Bureau of Meteorology announcing that La Niña will return by early-to-mid spring for the 3rd summer in a row an event not seen since the early 2000’s, that sun looks like it will be exchanged for a few wet months ahead.

Recently there’s been a hive of activity. AILA Fresh, Cultivate and the Environment Committees have all been busy with Studios visits, site tours and advocacy meetings and join industry discussions with AIA and PIA, The Executive has had strategic workshops with CEO Ben Stockwin to set strategic initiatives for the financial year and alongside delivering these, is also gearing up to prepare a AILA Victorian State Government Election Manifesto, similar to that prepared for the Federal Election and SA State Election, an advocacy piece for the industry locally as we head into the State Election.

With all this in store it will prove to be a busy Spring. With the 2022 awards behind us, we also look to the next main event. This themes of this year’s AILA Festival went live a few weeks back & what a show we’re in for! A reminder that Early Bird tickets close on the 24th August.

COUNTRY will be led by all First Nations facilitators. Guests will be representative of the diversity in Country across Australia, and the diverse philosophical approaches to understanding, being with, designing with and caring for Country.

COUNTRY will follow six conversations, led by an all-Indigenous panel. Each conversation will be followed by a more intimate discussion, which will be facilitated by a First Nations lead. Conversations will range from furthering our understanding of Country to unpacking design thinking, to applications for design practice. Participants will need to be prepared to join in the conversation in a reciprocal way, practicing deep listening and engaging in the discussion. The conversation themes are not to be missed.

Hope to see you all there!
