News from the NSW Executive - 19 June 2018

Recently, a number of members approached me concerned by the lack of NSW events. With a new executive team, a new state a manager and a new CEO, all appointed around the same time, some settling in time is only natural. Notwithstanding, for those who attended the NSW AILA 2018 Awards Exhibition at the Coal Loader site, Waverton, would appreciate what a wonderful evening it was. Thank you to our event sponsors Andreasens Green and Fleetwood and also to North Sydney Council and David Banbury (RLA) and his staff for helping to hang the posters and for hosting the event. For those that missed the night, the NSWAwards Exhibition and the AILA NSW Landscape Heritage Study boards are still on view at the Coal Loader, Balls Head Drive Waverton, 9am-4pm weekdays and 10am-4pm Saturday. Free entry!

Nevertheless, sometimes I feel we take for granted the behind the scenes effort required to organise these events we petition for. I too am conscious of the collective costs to attend events but, when the event is free, before you change your mind and not go, consider our sponsors, what they do to support our industry and what we need to do to support them?

Looking forward, there is ample opportunity to up the ante and participate in your events, which include the Centennial Parklands Walking Tour, Tuesday 26th June, and the AILA NSW Landscape ArchitectureAwards Night, 5 July 2018 together with a site visit to Gosford Quarries planned for the end of July.

While not a NSW event, start planning for the 2018 AILA International Festival of Landscape Architecture: The Expanding Field 11-14 October 2018 and the 2018 National Landscape Architecture Awards 11 October 2018 - Gold Coast. Details for all can be found in AILA NSW newsletters and the AILA Events website. Registrations now open! Book your tickets! And, having registered, please participate.
