ACT Annual Margaret Hendry Public Lecture/Forum.

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects ACT Chapter invites you to join them for the annual Margaret Hendry Public Lecture/Forum on Thursday 15 March, 2018 at the Palace Theatre in New Acton.

 The topic of this year’s public forum is:

“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” - Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities

Speakers include:

Suzanne Orr, MLA
Member for Yerrabi

Suzanne was born in Canberra and grew up in Giralang. While growing up Suzanne's family fostered more than 200 children. The experience made her aware from a young age that government has a big role in helping when people need extra support. She worked in the hospitality and tourism industries. Suzanne completed university as a mature age student and along with her cousins became part of the first generation in her father’s family to be university educated. After completing a master's degree she began a career as an urban planner and also worked for the Australian Public Service.

Kristi Jørgensen
Former CEO of Purdon Planning

Most recently, Kristi was the CEO of Purdon Planning here in Canberra providing strategic direction and leadership for the company, and working together with the passionate and driven team. Kristi has now relocated to Melbourne in order to explore the opportunities that come with a major city.  Kristi has previously lead teams responsible for planning and construction of major urban infill precincts at the Land Development Agency.  Over the last 15 years, she has developed her career, with experience both in Australia and in the Middle East. 

Jessica Christiansen-Franks
Co-Founder & CEO

Jessica is a qualified landscape architect and urban designer – turned social entrepreneur who has dedicated her career to understanding the social dynamics of urbanisation. Passionate about creating neighbourhoods people love and feel connected to, Jessica is a thought leader in innovative citizen participation, and particularly the value of ‘placemaking’ as a tool for collaboration and inspiring active citizenship. With experience across Australia, as well as the UK, Canada, India, Vietnam and the Philippines, Jessica has been fortunate enough to advise the public and private sectors, along with major international aid agencies.

Landscape Architect

Awarded international scholarships for study, Future Leader Award and recognized as a ‘Key Emerging Voice’ in landscape architecture by IFLA for the next 50 years.

This public lecture/forum commemorates the work and achievements of Margaret Hendry AO FAILA (1930 – 2001). Margaret was passionate about Landscape Architecture and the contribution that women make to improving the environment and social well being.
