VIC Lighting the Landscape - DON'T MISS OUT!
ROBERT SHOOK, FIALD
Director, Schuler Shook
MILLENNIUM PARK AND CHICAGO RIVERWALK
Schuler Shook were involved in both projects throughout their entire planning and design processes and can provide unique insights on the overall design concepts and in particular, how to make lighting a successful component of the landscape design.
Millennium Park and The Riverwalk are two landmark projects in the recent history of Chicago’s embrace of urban park lands related to water.
Millennium Park is a 10-hectare art park with many significant landscaping, architectural, and artwork elements, that draws visitors from all over the globe. The compelling story of Millennium Park was its evolution from an early concept of quiet Beaux-Arts extension of Grant Park to an exciting and dynamic destination for art and architecture enthusiasts. It features design work from Kathryn Gustafson, Frank Gehry, Anish Kapoor, and Jaume Plensa.
The Chicago Riverwalk is a recently completed connection between the downtown “Loop” business district and the Chicago River. Conceived as a series of interconnected “rooms” separated by bridges, each section of the Riverwalk has a unique design, each of which encourages and supports pedestrian activity in an area of the city which was previously nearly uninhabited. Riverwalk was planned and designed by US firms Sasaki and Ross Barney Architects.
