The federal government’s Smart Cities Plan is framed around the “30-minute city”. In this city, journeys will take no more than half an hour, regardless of your location. The recently released plan has significant implications for population, transport provision and land-use intensity in neighbourhoods – the places where people live and how they get around. Festival of Landscape Architecture

Not in My Backyard. The 2016 International Festival of Landscape Architecture is to be held in Canberra from 27 to 30 October 2016. The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture will host the Festival which incorporates the International Federation of Landscape Architects Asia-Pacific Congress Meeting, the International Conference, and the National Landscape Architecture Awards. Lat27 landscape design for JGL Properties’ Newstead Series to be green heart of project

IT IS an incredible feeling when Nathalie Ward gets to finally walk through one of her landscape design creations. The Lat27 director is looking forward to the completion in mid-2017 of more than 2000sq m of outdoor space for JGL Properties’ Newstead Series project. Ms Ward said it was a varied role, with Lat27 involved from concept design, right through to construction and plant selection with nurseries. She described seeing a completed design as “the best feeling in the world”. Read more.

Royal Park's Nature Play named nation's best playground by landscape architects

A Melbourne children's playground designed to encourage risk-taking - through rocky outcropped terraces and lofty climbing ropes - has been crowned the nation's best. It is known as Nature Play and sits in Royal Park, next to the Royal Children's Hospital. Melbourne’s Parkville home of Australia’s best playground

MELBOURNE is home to Australia’s best playground. A nationwide search by an expert jury from the Australian Institute for Landscape Architects found Nature Play next to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville to be the country’s best. Australian Institute for Landscape Architects head Shahana McKenzie said the park sets the standard for engagement between children and the city. Read more.
