AILA launches new website

AILA has released a renewed website as part of the ongoing review and improvement of communications to members and industry. The changes come after AILA listened to the feedback of members by trying to simplify the design of the website and improve navigation.

One million of the world’s species are now under threat of extinction, according to the biggest-ever review of the state of nature on earth.

The Square and the Park: 2019 International Festival of Landscape Architecture Thematic and Creative Directors announced

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has today announced that Jillian Walliss (University of Melbourne), Kirsten Bauer (ASPECT Studios) and Cassandra Chilton (Rush Wright Associates) have been appointed as the Creative Directorate for the 2019 International Festival of Landscape Architecture.

Hosted in Melbourne, the 2019 Festival interrogates the two dominant and often contentious landscape typologies of the Square and the Park.

AILA Launches WE-EF LIGHTING’s Landscape Architecture After Dark Competition

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has announced the launch of the inaugural WE-EF LIGHTING Landscape Architecture After Dark national competition.

The competition is designed to recognise and celebrate the very best of Australian landscape lighting and calls for entries from AILA registered landscape architects, applicants and graduates. Finalists will be selected by a People’s Choice voting system, followed by an official regional and national winner selection by expert jury.

Jury members will include Linda Corkery FAILA and AILA National President; Nathalie Ward FAILA and Director Lat27; Daniel Firns AILA and Design Director, UDLA; and Peter McLean, Senior Lighting Designer and Founder of Lighting, Art + Science.

All regional winners (regions are NSW/ACT, QLD, VIC/TAS, and SA/WA/NT) will receive a full Festival pass to the 2019 International Festival of Landscape Architecture, including travel and accommodation, and the overall national winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to WE- EF LIGHTING Design and Manufacturing Centre (Bangkok, Thailand) in February 2019.

Future Street : example to the rest of the world

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Smart Cities Council Australia and New Zealand (SCCANZ) and Internet of Things Alliance Australia (IoTAA) has today released the Future Street position statement and video summary calling on government at all levels to embrace our streets as important public spaces using the principles of the installation that was part of the 2017 International Festival of Landscape Architecture.

Future Street was a public activation, demonstrating the design concepts and technology for our future public spaces. Transforming a prominent Sydney street and reclaiming it for the people of the city, Future Street sparked ideas about how these spaces could be different and what that means for the community.
