The Summerland Peninsula Infrastructure and Procurement Master Plan exhibited an impressive breadth of consultation and included landscape assessment, planning, design, and site management. The project has led to the development of a new visitor centre with improved viewing areas and facilities for a greater visitor capacity, achieving gains in terms of site footprint, site rehabilitation, habitat and biodiversity.
At a fundamental level this project aims to achieve the highest standards of environmental quality and sustainable design, demonstrating responsiveness to social and community needs, whilst achieving sound economic outcomes for Phillip Island Nature Parks.
The influence of the Master Plan extends to a significant change in thinking within the Nature Parks organisation, with values and principles based on concepts of authenticity, sustainability, and place specific design inclusive of the outstanding natural and scenic resources of the Summerland Peninsula.
