There is unprecedented growth in the construction and refurbishment of child care centres in NSW. The design of rich, natural, varied outdoor spaces is critical to the optimal development of young children.
How do children use these spaces, and what do they need? Which forms of play are the most valued and why? How is this offset by the plethora of rules and regulations that must be followed?
This half day workshop aims to stimulate a Talkfest on Supervised Early Childhood Play Settings through the 3 presentations below;
Ruth Garlick - 'Legislation for Mud', through the National Quality Standards for supervised early childhood settings.
Fiona Robbe - Standards & Nature Play “Rigid Bridges & Stepping Stones” - Design implications for Supervised Early Childhood settings.
Janet Robertson- “Messing about doing stuff” - Children’s needs and interests as regards to outdoor play in supervised early childhood settings.
