Join Lawn Solutions Australia and AILA SA on the 2019 Celebrity Lawn Series Tour to visit Turf Trials for Council areas with difficult and challenging environments for lawn survival and success.  The Trials investigate if TifTuf and Sir Grange have superior attributes to survive and thrive in challenging public areas or situations. The tour will start in the city with viewing the Rymill Park Island Trial and venture down to the City of Holdfast to visit some trial sites.

A great technical event for both local governments and private practices to support design and specification processes to achieve sustainable outcomes for our communities in SA. Full details below.

Trials included in tour program:

Sir Grange on Rymill Park Island (Adelaide Council)

The area is heavily shaded, high traffic with pedestrians and ducks.

The Island is used frequently for leisure, weddings and events.

Over the years many varieties of turf have been planted on the island with very limited success.

Sir Grange was selected to trial due to its high shade tolerance up to 75%, Very Low Maintenance and High Wear and Tear capabilities.

Installation of lawn was 27th November; therefore, we are in early days of trial and will be monitoring the results over the next twelve months.

Trial outcome:   To determine if Sir Grange is firstly suitable alternative for this application. Secondly what are the challenges and solutions to establishing turf in this environment.

TifTuf on Glenelg Foreshore (Holdfast Council)

The area is shaded by pine trees and buildings for much of the day.

Watering is limited.

The area had high pedestrian use, especially for events and summer season.

Sea Spray and Strong Winds

The lawn prior to the trial has been regularly replaced for events with Kikuyu that fails to survive due to limited sunlight.

TifTuf was selected for the area due to its low water use (once established), tolerance to salt, fast repair ability (suitable for sports use), winter colour and shade tolerance of up to 50%.

Installation of lawn was in7th November; therefore, we are in early days of trial and will be monitoring the results over the next twelve months.

Trial outcome:   To determine if TifTuf is a more suitable turf for density and fast repair under high use on the foreshore with shade.

TifTuf on Brighton Oval Goal Squares (Holdfast Council)

The area is in full sun and under heavy foot traffic with continuous sports

The goal Squares wear out quickly and are often in muddy conditions.

Tiftuf was selected due to its wear and tear tolerance and ability for fast repair in sporting areas.

Installation of lawn was in 11th December; therefore, we are in early days of trial and will be monitoring the results over the next twelve months.

Trial outcome:   To determine if TifTuf is a more suitable turf for density and fast repair under high sports use.
